SRI PATTALAMMAN TEMPLE HISTORY 

Sri Pattalamman Temple is located in Coimbatore, tamilnadu. It is located at a distance of 20km in the Coimbatore – Ooty main Road, in warn 13, Periyanaicken palayam Town Pancahayat, kashthuripalayam Road, belonging to Coimbatore North Taluk.

Sri Pattalamman is the only female deity having the large number of temples. She was born with seven sisters such as Mariyamman, Mahaliamman, Bathrakalaiamma, Angalamman (in Karnataka State like muthalamma, Bangaramma, Boleramma, Angamma, Dilli polasi and Mathamma – who are worshipped by Dravidians) and others. She is eldest of them. Since she has the authority to rule she is called Pattalamman and Pattatharasi by the people. There came a feeling of protective power by looking up to the goddesses, regarded as forms of Sakthi. 

She is the contemporary of the village deities such as Ponnar Sankar and Nalla Thangal. Wherever Telugu speaking people belonging to the weaker sections of the Society live in Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Andra Pradesh and Thelungana. There is a temple of their Protecting deity Pattalamman.

The Temple in Periyanaicken Palayam was built about 200 years ago with rocks. Later the village elders constructed a small building. Later in the year 2001 new construction was undertaken. Now the temple is having Karuvarai, Artha Mandapam, Maha Mandapam. The thirumeni of Pattalamma is beautifully mad. The image of Gajalaxmi is housed in the Artha Mandapam.

The idols of Sri Vinayaga and Lord Muruga are in the Maha Mandapam in the left and right sides respectively. The idol of the lion is at the centre of the Maha Mandapam. The idol Muniappa Swami and Madurai Veeran is in front of the Temple. Vels ( ThiriSoolams) are constructed in the front of the temple. In the northern side Sri Muthu Vinayagar temple is located under the banyan tree. The idols of Kannimar Ammans are behind it. Every year POOSATTU URSAVAM (PANDIGAI) is performed for 15 days during vaikasi after Amavasaya (mean Valarpirai days). Thiruppavai Bajan is conducted during Margazhi every Year. Special Pooja is performed during Fridays, Adi, Thai Poosam, Karithigai Deepam, Amavasya, Pournami and Prathosha time. Buses are available at every one hour from Coimbatore Gandipuram town Bus Stand and Ukkadam Bus Stand for visiting Temple.
